Introduction
Welcome to Georgia Tech's SACS Accreditation Web site. This site serves as the campus focal point for sharing all of the pertinent information involving Georgia Tech's preparations for its upcoming 2005 SACS accreditation re-affirmation, including the processes and committees involved in our preparations, progress updates, goals and timelines, and two important documents: our Compliance Certification report and our Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP). Many colleagues from across the campus have been working diligently to prepare for our re-affirmation visit in 2005, and your help and assistance are most welcome to assure our success.
The new accreditation standards adopted by SACS in 2004 have fundamentally changed the accreditation landscape, and we have the opportunity to be among the first institutions to be accredited under them. The criteria have been significantly revised, refocused, and reduced, and the process has become much more collaborative and collegial. Best of all, there is a strong spirit of trust and a focus on improving the quality of the student learning experience. I invite you to visit the SACS Web site and acquaint yourself with the Commission on Colleges, their conferences and publications, and, of course, the accreditation standards. I also invite you to speak with any of the members of Georgia Tech's SACS Leadership Team or the Council for Institutional and Academic Program Review and Accreditation to learn more, and especially with respect to Georgia Tech's QEP. Through this evolving initiative, we will be working to improve our learning environment long after the SACS re-affirmation visitors have come and gone, and there ample opportunities for all members of the Georgia Tech community to participate.
SACS accreditation is important to Georgia Tech, and I invite you to join us in this important effort.
With best regards,
Jack Lohmann
